Ben Tune, the Australia wing, will take no part in their European tour after suffering a serious hamstring injury at the River Plate Stadium where the Wallabies opened their four-Test venture with a hard-fought but lacklsutre 17-6 win against Argentina on Saturday.
Tune has headed home for treatment and Mark Bartholomeusz has been summoned to link up with the squad in Dublin, where they face Ireland on Saturday. The Wallabies will also face England and Italy.
Australia put in rusty performance against a tough home side, and the game quickly turned into an abrasive affair. Stirling Mortlock scored the only try, seven minutes into first-half injury-time, but that coupled with four penalties, three by Matt Burke, was enough to earn only their third win in Argentina. Bristol's normally-reliable fly-half Felipe Contepomi missed seven penalties.
Brendan Cannon is also on his way to Dublin as back-up after Jeremy Paul aggravated a hamstring injury he suffered during training. Other doubts are Burke (severely bruised leg) and Mat Rogers (rib cartilage). Owen Finegan (ankle) and David Lyons (upper thigh) are injury worries, although both are expected to be fit after sitting out the game.
"This was a very hard match so we're satisfied with the win. But we are disappointed with the way Argentina played and their tactic of playing the man and not the ball," said Eddie Jones, the Wallabies coach.
"We haven't played as badly as this for a long time," said the Pumas wing Diego Albanese after his team were booed off. "We're very angry with ourselves. We didn't feel Australia outclassed us but things didn't work. We lost a lot of balls."
