Alan Pardew finally received some good news yesterday/on Wednesday when it emerged that Tim Krul is expected to start against Leicester City at St James’ Park on Saturday after all.

Newcastle United’s Holland goalkeeper had damaged an elbow during training with his national squad last weekend and the early indications were that one of Pardew’s most consistent performers could be sidelined for up to six weeks.

A scan revealed ligament damage but its minor nature dictates that although Krul is still receiving treatment on the injury and faces a late fitness test, Rob Elliot will almost certainly be denied a rare chance to deputise in goal against Leicester.

A Newcastle spokesman said: “Tim Krul has been further assessed today by the club’s medical staff and the club can confirm that he has nothing more than a very minor elbow injury. The club will continue to monitor the situation but are confident that he will be available for the game against Leicester City on Saturday.”

With Newcastle still seeking their first Premier League win of the season Pardew is anxious to field his strongest possible side against Nigel Pearson’s team.
